Beowulf: The Monsters and the Critics was the Sir Israel Gollancz Memorial Lecture for 1936. Tolkien delivered it to the British Academy on 25 November 1936 and again two weeks later to the Manchester Mediaeval Society.

The year of publication is not actually stated, just the fact that the lecture was delivered on 25 November 1936, and that it was taken from the Proceedings of the British Academy, Volume XXII.

Binding - Seven signatures of eight pages each. Signatures are stitched together and then glued into card wrappers. (Approximately 25.5 x 16.0 cm)
