There were seven impressions issued, all essentially similar.

Two copies of the 4th impression have been seen lacking the gilt additions that form the rune borders and the sun.

* ISBN 0261102001 is also recorded on the verso of the title page of the Collector's Box Edition issued in 2000. This would seem to be an error, because the same number had already been used for this 1991 Hardback Edition of The Hobbit.
