The 1980 version of the map of The West of Middle-earth at the End of the Third Age is inserted on a fold-out sheet at the rear.

Five impressions issued:

14th Impression 1987
15th Impression 1987
16th Impression 1988
17th Impression 1988
18th Impression 1990

The 14th and 15th Impressions feature the earlier plain text 'Unwin Hyman' logo on the spine and title page, whereas the 16th, 17th and 18th Impressions have the later 'Man in a Circle' logo.

A copy of the 13th Impression from 1985 has also been seen in this dustwrapper.

Copies of the 1990 Impression are marked 17th Impression in error.
