Notes
This catalogue includes two Tolkien-related lots:

Lot 26 (p.20) - Two letters to A.W. Riddle dated 10 January and 2 October 1947 respectively - The lot description includes extracts from both letters, discussing various aspects of English language and correct use. Two pages from the letters are reproduced in a photograph.

Lot 29 (p.21) - A letter to Carole Ward dated 10 August 1964, discussing a television version of The Lord of the Rings - The lot description includes quotes from the letter showing that Tolkien disapproved of dramatisations, especially of LotR, because of the necessity of cutting and editing his story - inevitably a destructive and damaging process.

Tolkien's inscription in a copy of The Fellowship of the Ring is reproduced on the lower cover.

The letters are not included in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien (1981).
