There were five impressions issued, all essentially similar:

* This is the (later) Second State of the Second Impression. The Second Impression of this Reset Edition has been seen with two different cover designs – the earlier (First State) based on Tolkien’s classic dustwrapper design and the later (Second State) featuring his illustration Conversation with Smaug.

** The 5th Impression is not recorded in 6th Impression copies.
