George Allen & Unwin
London
ISBN 0048232734
Hardback in dustwrapper
Illustrated by Michael Hague
Hammond Page Ref.: p.59

Notes
Includes Thror’s Map and the Map of Wilderland on integral pages. Features 48 colour illustrations by Michael Hague.

There are two variants of this edition:

1) This variant appears to be the Houghton Mifflin Edition ‘converted’ to a George Allen & Unwin Edition. The binding has ‘Houghton Mifflin’ on the spine, and the title page and verso bear the Houghton Mifflin imprint and publishing details. The Allen & Unwin imprint and publishing details have been added on labels pasted over the American details. The dustwrapper bears the Allen & Unwin name as printed, i.e. is not altered from Houghton Mifflin, but does not have an ISBN and barcode on the lower cover. This variant is not noted in Wayne Hammond’s bibliography.

2) This variant has the George Allen & Unwin imprint and publishing details as printed and is in an A&U binding. The dustwrapper has an ISBN and barcode on the lower cover.

The dustwrapper on the 'converted' edition is a slightly darker shade of green. The darker variant is shown opposite. See the image for the Book Club Edition for the lighter variant.

The American, British and Book Club Editions were all printed together in Italy.
