According to pages 247 and 252 of Wayne Hammond's bibliography, the Guild Publishing editions of The Book of Lost Tales, Part I (BoLT1) and The Book of Lost Tales, Part II (BoLT2) were first published by Book Club Associates in 1983 and 1984 respectively, i.e. in the same year as the A&U first editions.  This is almost certainly a misinterpretation based on the details recorded in the second impressions of the Guild editions of BoLT1 and BoLT2.  As the images below demonstrate, they were actually first published in 1986, the same year that The Lays of Beleriand and The Shaping of Middle-earth were issued.

Below is an excerpt from the publishing details of the first impression of the Allen & Unwin edition of BoLT2 from 1984.  Notice that it has the Allen & Unwin copyright statement, followed by their three main addresses and then the statement 'First published in 1984'.

Publishing details for the 1st Edition of BoLT2

The next excerpt is from the publishing details of the first impression of the Guild Publishing edition from 1986.  Notice that it still has the Allen & Unwin copyright statement, but this is now followed by a statement giving the year of the BCA edition as 1986.  The statement 'First published in 1984' is still present unaltered.

Publishing details for the 1st Guild Impression of BoLT2

The final excerpt is from the publishing details of the second impression of the Guild Publishing edition, also from 1986.  The Allen & Unwin copyright statement, and the statement giving the year of the BCA edition as 1986 are both still present, but the statement 'First published in 1984' is now followed by 'Second impression 1986'.  Wayne Hammond appears to have taken 'First published in 1984' to be a reference to the Guild edition rather than the A&U edition.

Publishing details for the 2nd Guild Impression of BoLT2

Equivalent editions can be found for BoLT1.  Without sight of the first two editions it is, perhaps, understandable that Wayne Hammond gives 1983 and 1984 respectively as the years for the first Guild Publishing editions but, in light of the excerpts given above, 1986 is almost certainly the correct year - and it ties in with the issue of volumes three and four of the series.
